My Scientist

  • Focus Question: What does a scientist look like?

  • Prediction: (Talk with your partners and discuss what you think a scientist looks like.) We predicted that a scientist would sometimes where a lab coat, we discussed that he would be male or female, also the scientist would explore outside to learn about about weather and our environment to help our world.

  • Planning: -Materials- Paper and drawing utensils such as makers, crayons, and pencils.

-The Steps of the Investigation: 1. Think about what I scientist looks like to you. 2. Discuss your predictions with your group. 3. Draw your scientist and where you envision your scientist doing and where. 4. Discuss with the whole group about your scientist. 5. Discuss with the whole group about scientists, what they do, who can be a scientist, and if we are scientists.

  • Data/Diagrams/Graphs: My scientist is a man who wears his lab coat everywhere he goes. My scientist is exploring nature and the world around him to cure diesases. In his hand he holds a  magnifying glass to look closely at the things that make up our world, and a lab tube to take evidence he needs for science research. Below is the picture I drew of my scientist for my data.

  • Claims and Evidence: We discussed as a class what our own scientist looked like. We all found out that not one scientist from our peers were exactly the same. Some of my peers drew their scientist as women, old men, and some scientist without lab coats. I talked with my group about each of our scientist. One of my peer's scientist was a female who wore regular clothes while she study weather patterns near where she lived. My other group peer drew her scientist as a male in a hospital lab wearing glasses and a lab coat.

  • Conclusion: A real scientist can be a woman or a man. Real scientists do not always wear a lab coat and they do not always work in a hospital or with chemicals. From Astronauts, Marine Biologist, Meteorologist, and cooks. Any one who researches or experiments is a real scientist.

  • Reflection: After our investigation, I believe that I can be a scientist as long as I ask questions and investigate for answers. Making mistakes is also part of being a scientist. Sometimes we have to try more than once to get something right or search for an answer.
